Elder M. Russell Ballard of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints spoke to graduates at the 15 December 2007 commencement ceremony at Brigham Young University/Hawaii.

"The final address to the graduates was given by Elder Ballard, entitled Using "New Media" to Support the Work of the Church. The majority of his talk was devoted to encouraging members, and especially the new graduates, to use the recent technological advances for the good of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He also proved how, contrary to the beliefs of some, the age of the prophets, apostles and other leaders of the church do not make them incapable of leading the church. He himself was given an iPod by his grandchildren last Christmas, and he specifically mentioned Facebook, blogs and E-mail as increasingly popular methods of communication. "Make sure," he warned, "that the choices you make in the use of new media are choices that expand your mind, increase your opportunities, and feed your soul.""

This speech inspired me to take this old website out 10 years of mothballs and refresh it. Originally done in late 1990's the project taught me the basics of HTML, which I am still trying to move beyond. Actually content is valid but needs remaking to work better with the Blackberry, iPhone, Android and other mobile devices. I love the times we live in for what we can do with the tools given us by God. I am learning how to use the tools I have been given so quickly. I also love the simple tools man started with so many centuries ago; like friction fire, knife, cordage, leather, flute, singing, bicycles and walking

S.A.L.T. Homepage
I have been in at the beginning of several organizations and S.A.L.T. is one. Salt started as an idea for a class that Rod Dotson could teach or a group he might form. Albert Abril, I and some other ambitious souls with a love for this historical work banded together and Rod had moved but gave us permission to use the name if we just kept him in the loop. Rod's talents in this area are many so this was agreed to and S.A.L.T. was formed. Bob Sizemore was President and a very ambitious leader he was with a great love for Atlatal and related primitive skills. That is a skeletal and lacking description of the origins of S.A.L.T. Go to the website linked above for more detail and current info.

S.A.L.T. MISSION STATEMENT

The primary activity of the S.A.L.T. (Study of Ancient Lifeways and Technologies) organization is to research, promote, and teach the practice of the primitive, pre-Columbian (pre 1540) technology of the Southwestern United States and Northwestern Mexico. This promotion entails educating and informing any and all interested parties to the life skills and arts of the Ancient Cultures of the Southwest by bringing public awareness through various events while maintaining high standards of authenticity, ethics and quality.

Thanks to all and lets keep on keepin' on.
